Why a native Vietnamese voice matters
Vietnamese is the one language on this list where a foreign accent is not a matter of taste but of meaning. Six tones distinguish words that are otherwise identical - ma, má, mà, mả, mã, mạ are six different words - and a voice that reads tone marks as stress or ignores them produces sentences that are not merely accented but wrong. English-trained TTS also breaks Vietnamese syllable structure, which is strictly one syllable per written word, with final consonants that are held rather than released.
The four native voices cover both sides of the country’s main accent divide. Kiều Linh is a confident young female voice for advertising and announcements, and Hien a warm northern broadcaster with real weight. Trung is a clear, firm northern male voice - the most-used Vietnamese voice in the library - and Trieu a deep, calm southern one. Northern (Hanoi) is the broadcast standard; southern (Saigon) is what a much larger share of everyday speech sounds like, and choosing between them is a real targeting decision.

Frequently asked questions
Does it read all six Vietnamese tones correctly?
Yes - the tone marks are read as tones by native voices, which is the whole point: in Vietnamese, getting the tone wrong does not produce an accent, it produces a different word.
Northern or southern accent?
Both. Hien and Trung are northern (the broadcast standard); Trieu is southern. Kiều Linh speaks the neutral standard register. The picker tags each voice with its region.
Which tiers support Vietnamese?
Standard (OpenAI) and Enhanced. The Premium tier runs on ElevenLabs Multilingual v2, which does not support Vietnamese at all - so for Vietnamese, Enhanced at 90 credits per 1,000 characters is the top tier, and the app hides Premium for Vietnamese text rather than letting you spend credits on a bad result.
