Frequently asked questions
How is text-to-speech billed?
Per 1,000 characters of input text, from the same credit balance as transcription: 50 credits with Standard (OpenAI) voices, 90 with Enhanced (ElevenLabs Flash), 180 with Premium (ElevenLabs Multilingual v2). Roughly, 1,000 characters is one minute of speech. The exact cost is shown live under the text box before you generate.
Which voices are available?
Licensed stock voices from two providers: eight OpenAI voices on the Standard tier and six ElevenLabs voices shared by the Enhanced and Premium tiers (same voices, higher-quality model on Premium). Each has a free preview sample. Speecho does not offer voice cloning or custom voices.
What languages does it speak?
The voices speak the language of the text you paste — write in Spanish, get Spanish speech, including correct pronunciation for most major languages. All tiers handle non-English text; the Premium ElevenLabs tier is the strongest for natural accents.
Can I turn a transcription into speech?
Yes — every transcript in your history has a Voice button that sends its text straight into the generator. Combined with translation, this turns a recording in one language into spoken audio in another: transcribe, translate, voice.
What format do I get, and how long is it stored?
MP3, playable in the browser and downloadable. Clips are stored for 90 days, and you can delete any clip — or your whole account — at any time, which removes the audio immediately.
Can I use the audio commercially?
Yes. Generation runs on paid API tiers of OpenAI and ElevenLabs, whose licenses permit commercial use of the generated audio. You are responsible for the content of the text you convert.
Is there a free tier?
Yes. Confirm your email and you get 150 free credits — about 3,000 characters of Standard speech — so you can generate a real clip before paying anything (voice previews are free too). After that it is pay-per-character with no subscription: a one-time $5 pack covers roughly 48,000 characters of Standard speech.
