Why a native Spanish voice matters
Spanish vowels are short, pure and never reduced - the exact opposite of English - which is why English-accented TTS is so easy to spot in Spanish: it drawls the vowels and softens the r. A native voice rolls the rr, keeps the vowels crisp and lands the stress where written accents put it, including on questions, where Spanish intonation rises differently than English.
Six voices speak Latin American Spanish, the variant used by most Spanish-language media: Cristina and Norah are warm and conversational, Tatiana calm and wise-sounding, Fernando a narrator with newsroom weight, Alberto even and steady, and Benjamin a deep Mexican voice with real age in it. Two more speak peninsular Spanish for audiences in Spain - Carolina, neutral and clear, and David, confident and balanced. The difference is not cosmetic: Castilian distinción (the th sound in cielo, zapato) marks a voice as Spanish rather than Latin American on the first word.
