Bulk text to speech: a separate MP3 for every line

Paste a list of words or short phrases, one per line, or drop a CSV, and Speecho voices each line as its own MP3 in the voice you pick. Every file is named after its line and kept in the list's order, and the whole set downloads as one ZIP. Listen to any line, voice the ones you want again, and pay by characters, not per file.

From a list to a folder of MP3 files

One voice and the same settings for every line, so the files sound like one set.

ZIP ready
1Paste the list or open a file. One line, one file: words, short phrases or sentences, up to 1,000 lines. A .txt file fills the box as it is; from a .csv or .tsv the first column becomes the list; with translations in a second column you get flashcards instead, or turn that off to keep only the words.
2Pick one voice for all of it. Choose a quality tier and a voice, and play it free before you start. The price of the whole list is on the button. Need it in a second voice too? Add one, and you get a ZIP per voice.
3Voice the list. Lines are voiced one after another while the card shows how far it has got; you can stop after any line. A line that fails is refunded and can be voiced again.
4Check, redo, download. Play any line from the card. Tick the ones you want again, or correct one first, and voice just those. Then download every file as one ZIP.

What a list costs

The whole list is priced as one text by its characters, with a single 10-credit minimum for all of it, not one per file. The price is on the button before anything is charged.

Rate50 credits per 1,000 characters on Standard, 110 on Enhanced, 160 on Premium. One tier for the whole list, the same rates as any text.
Short linesA line under 10 characters counts as 10. A three-letter word costs what a ten-letter one does, and still far less than a clip of its own.
1,000 wordsAbout 10,000 characters as billed. About 500 credits on Standard, 1,100 on Enhanced, 1,600 on Premium. A thousand words on Premium fit in the $5 pack.
Voice againEach line you voice again costs its own characters, with no minimum. A short word on Premium costs 2 credits; a line that failed was refunded and is voiced again the same way.

Packs: $5 = 2,400 credits, $10 = 6,000, $25 = 16,800, $50 = 36,000. Credits never expire, there is no subscription, and there is a 14-day refund. All prices on the pricing page →

Frequently asked questions

How do I turn a word list into separate audio files?

Open Text to speech in Speecho and switch to List. Paste your words or phrases, one per line, or open a .txt or .csv file, pick a voice and press Voice. Each line becomes its own MP3, and the card in your history downloads them all as one ZIP.

How are the files named?

By number and text, in the order of your list: 0001_lopen.mp3, 0002_maken.mp3 and so on. Spaces become underscores, characters that file systems refuse are left out, and a long line is cut at 40 characters in the name. The number keeps the order and keeps two equal lines apart.

How much does bulk text to speech cost?

The whole list is priced as one text: 50, 110 or 160 credits per 1,000 characters on Standard, Enhanced or Premium voices, with one 10-credit minimum for the whole list. A line under 10 characters counts as 10. A thousand short words come to about 500 credits on Standard and 1,600 on Premium; packs start at $5 for 2,400 credits.

How many lines can one list have?

Up to 1,000 lines and 200,000 characters. A longer list goes in as several lists, each with its own ZIP.

Can I use a CSV file or a spreadsheet?

Yes. Save the sheet as CSV or TSV and open it: the first column fills the list, one row per line. With translations in the second column the rows become flashcards, the word and its translation in two voices; turn that off to voice only the first column. A plain .txt file with one entry per line works too.

What if a word is pronounced wrong or cut short?

Play the line on the card, tick it and voice it again: every take comes out a little different. You can also correct the line first, for example add a full stop after a single word or put it in a short phrase, or try another voice or tier for the next list. Each line voiced again costs only its own characters.

Do all the files sound the same?

Every line of a list is voiced in the same voice, tier and settings, and each line on its own, so one word does not take on the tone of the word before it. That keeps a set of thousands of files consistent.

Can I get the same list in two voices?

Yes. Under the voice picker, press "+ Add another voice" and pick up to two more. Each voice becomes a list of its own, with its own card and ZIP, and is priced like a list in that voice. Useful for a male and a female voice, or one word list in two accents, such as Flemish and Dutch.

Which languages can I use?

The same languages as Text to speech: native voices for many languages and accents, and universal voices for the rest. Pick the language in the voice picker and the voices for it appear.

Can I use the files commercially?

Yes. Generation runs on the paid commercial API tiers of our voice providers, whose terms permit commercial use of the generated audio. You are responsible for the content of your lines.
