Deutsch gesprochen. Tiếng Việt gelesen.
German spoken in the room, Vietnamese subtitles on the phones in it. Built for the meetings the Vietnamese community in Germany has to sit through in a second language - services, parent evenings, workplace briefings.

Not every room gets one, and the ones that matter most are usually the ones that do not.
Elternabend at a German school
An hour of German about grades, trips and deadlines, and Vietnamese-speaking parents leave with the parts they caught and a form they are not sure about.
Now: The whole evening is readable in Vietnamese on their phones, and the transcript goes home with them.
A service or community meeting in German
Someone bilingual whispers a summary to the row behind, which helps three people and costs them the service.
Now: Everyone reads the same thing at the same time in their own language, and the volunteer gets to listen.
Workplace briefings and safety training
The training is in German because it has to be documented in German, and comprehension is assumed rather than checked.
Now: Staff read along in Vietnamese while the trainer speaks German, and the German transcript is still there afterwards for the file.
Subtitles appear while the sentence is still being spoken
Interim words show up instantly and settle as the phrase completes - the German above, the Vietnamese below.
Guten Abend, schön dass Sie alle gekommen sind.
Chào buổi tối, rất vui vì tất cả mọi người đã đến.
Ich möchte kurz über den Ablauf des Schuljahres sprechen.
Tôi muốn nói ngắn gọn về lịch trình của năm học.
Wenn Sie Fragen haben, stellen Sie sie bitte jederzeit.
Nếu quý vị có câu hỏi, xin cứ hỏi bất cứ lúc nào.
Three steps, and the room is reading
Set up once; after that it is one button before you start.
1. Pick where the sound comes from
The microphone in the room, or the audio of a browser tab if the meeting is online. Taking audio from the sound desk beats a laptop microphone across the hall.
Note: tab audio needs Chrome or Edge. In Safari and Firefox the microphone is the way in.
2. Share the reading link
One link, shown as a QR code on the screen or printed in the programme. It opens in a browser - no install, no account, and each reader sets their own text size.
Or: put the subtitles on the projector in fullscreen instead, and nobody needs a phone at all.
3. Start, and stop when you are done
Billed by the second while the session runs, from a pay-as-you-go balance. Pause it over a break and nothing is charged.
Afterwards: the session is saved as a transcript in both languages, exportable as text or subtitles.
Pay only for what you use
Top up once. Credits never expire. No subscription. One wallet for transcription, scans and captions.
New accounts get 15 free minutes to try - credits work for scans and captions too.
Frequently asked questions
Are Vietnamese tone marks shown correctly?
Yes. The subtitles are full Vietnamese with diacritics - ấ, ề, ọ, ữ and the rest - not stripped ASCII. Vietnamese without tone marks is genuinely ambiguous to read, so this is not a cosmetic detail.
Northern or southern Vietnamese?
The translation is standard written Vietnamese, which both read without friction. The difference between the two is far larger in speech than in writing, and a subtitle is read, not heard.
How does it cope with long German compound words?
They are recognised as the single words they are and translated as a phrase - Geschwindigkeitsbegrenzung does not arrive as three fragments. Officialese is the harder problem, and dense administrative German translates more literally than a person would.
Can it run the other way, Vietnamese to German?
Yes. Swap the two selects in the app: Vietnamese is recognised as a spoken language and German is a supported target. This page simply opens with the German-to-Vietnamese direction already set.
What does an hour cost?
Billed by the second from a pay-as-you-go balance, from $0.83 per hour. A parent evening or a service is roughly a dollar, and you pay nothing while the session is not running.
Other language pairs
The same session in a different direction - and any of the 56 recognised languages can be translated into any supported target, whether or not it has a page here.
Nobody has to sit through an hour they only half understand.
