Online video recorder

Record your webcam, your screen, or your screen with your camera in a corner, and download the video. Paste a script and it scrolls over the camera preview while you talk, like a teleprompter. No account, no install, no upload: the video stays in this tab. Need the words? Send it to transcription for text and subtitles; the first 15 minutes are free.

Turn on the camera to see yourself before you record.
Ready when you are
Script (teleprompter)

The script is only on your screen; it is not in the video. Click it to hold the scroll, or scroll it by hand to catch up. 140 words per minute is a calm speaking pace.

Camera, screen, or both

Camera records you: a video message, a reply to a job posting, a lesson, a take for social media. Turn the camera on first, check the framing and the green sound bar, then press record; a three-second countdown gives you time to look up. Screen records a tab, a window or the whole screen with your voice over it: a bug report, a walkthrough, a recorded presentation. Screen + camera adds your face in a round frame in the bottom-right corner, the way product demos and online lessons usually look.

Reading from a script is what gets a take done in one go. Paste it into the script box and it scrolls over the preview, near the lens, at the pace you choose, so your eyes stay close to the camera. For a mirror mode for prompter glass, a scroll that follows your voice or a script on a second device, use the full teleprompter and record here or with your phone.

Nothing is uploaded: the browser records into memory and hands you a file. When you want the words rather than the picture, upload the video to Speecho for a transcript with timestamps and subtitles in SRT or VTT, translated if you need; the first 15 minutes are free. Only need the sound? The voice recorder is the lighter tool, and extract audio from video turns a recording you already have into MP3.

Online video recorder - FAQ

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The browser captures the camera or screen and keeps the video in memory in this tab. There is no upload, no account and nothing for us to see. Close the tab and it is gone, so download the file first.

What format is the video?

Recent Chrome and Edge save MP4 (H.264 video, AAC sound), which plays almost everywhere. Firefox saves WebM, which plays in browsers, VLC and most editors but not in every phone gallery. Safari saves MP4. The line under the finished video shows which one you got; if you need MP4 from a WebM file, convert it in a video editor.

How do I record my screen and my camera at the same time?

Choose Screen + camera, turn on the camera, then press "Choose screen and record" and pick a tab, a window or the whole screen. Your camera appears in a round frame in the bottom-right corner of the video. You can switch to the window you are presenting; the recording carries on in the background.

Can I record my screen with sound?

Your voice, yes, in every browser: leave "Record microphone" on. Sound playing in a tab can be included in Chrome and Edge: tick "Include sound from the tab or computer" here and keep tab audio switched on in the browser's sharing window. Sound from the whole computer depends on the browser and the system; Chrome and Edge offer it on Windows. Firefox and Safari share the picture only. For a Meet, Zoom or Teams call, the meeting recorder in the app captures the tab’s sound the same way and hands it straight to transcription.

Can I read a script while I record?

Yes, in Camera mode. Open "Script (teleprompter)", paste your text and pick a speed. When the countdown ends, the script scrolls over the top of the preview, close to the lens, and stops when you pause the recording. It is never in the video. Click the script to hold it, and use + and − to change the speed during a take.

How long can I record?

Up to 30 minutes per take. The video is held in memory until you download it, at roughly 15 to 20 MB per minute, and the limit keeps a long take from crashing the tab. For longer sessions, record in parts.

Does it work on a phone?

The camera works in mobile Chrome and Safari, and once it is on you can pick the front or back camera from the list. Screen recording does not: phones do not let a web page capture the screen. Use the screen recorder built into iOS or Android for that.

It says access was blocked - how do I fix it?

Click the padlock or camera icon in the address bar, allow the camera and microphone for this site, then reload. If the site is already allowed, the operating system is blocking the browser: on a Mac, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and allow your browser under Camera, Microphone and Screen Recording (called Screen & System Audio Recording on newer versions), then restart the browser.

Is the video mirrored?

Only the preview, because that is how people expect to see themselves. The recording is not mirrored, so text on your shirt or a sign behind you reads the right way round in the file.

How do I get a transcript or subtitles for my video?

Download the video and upload it to Speecho. You get the text with timestamps, subtitles in SRT or VTT and a summary, and a translation if you need one. The first 15 minutes are free and there is no subscription. Uploads are limited to 200 MB; for a larger file, pull the audio out first, which takes a few MB per minute.
