Why voice messages come as .opus, .oga and .amr
Messengers record voice in Opus, a codec that keeps speech clear at a tiny size. WhatsApp saves it as .opus (older versions as .ogg), Telegram as .oga. Phones play these inside the app, but a car stereo, a Windows media player or an email recipient often cannot. Old Android phones and call recorders use AMR, which almost nothing on a computer opens.
MP3 plays everywhere. This page decodes the file with your browser's own audio engine and writes the MP3 locally; AMR and 3GP, which browsers cannot decode, go through ffmpeg compiled to run in the page. If what you need is the text of the message, Speecho takes the original file directly, no conversion step.

How do I convert a WhatsApp voice message to MP3?
Get the voice message out of the chat as a file: long-press it, choose Share (or Forward, then Share on some phones) and save it to your files or send it to yourself by email. Drop the .opus file here and press Convert to MP3. Several messages can go in at once.
Are my voice messages uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in this browser tab. You can check the network tab of your browser: the files are never sent anywhere.
Why does an .amr file take longer the first time?
Browsers cannot decode AMR or 3GP, so for those the page downloads a converter (ffmpeg, about 30 MB) the first time it is needed. Your browser caches it; Opus and Ogg files never need it.
Which quality should I pick?
Voice (64 kbps) is plenty for speech and keeps a one-minute message around half a megabyte. Pick Clearer (128 kbps) if the message has music or a lot of background noise. Both are mono, because a voice message carries no stereo.
Can I get the text of a voice message instead?

Is there a limit?
Up to 20 files per batch. Length is limited only by your device memory; a phone handles an hour-long recording, very long files are easier on a computer.
