## Hear the difference

The same Portuguese sentence, twice. Keren is Brazilian; Zoe reads Portuguese with an English accent - the nasal ão is where you hear it first.

All 15 run on the ElevenLabs tiers: Enhanced at 110 credits / 1,000 characters (≈ $0.23 per minute of speech) and Premium at 160 (≈ $0.33) for the most natural result. The Standard tier reads Portuguese too at 50 credits, and for most languages it has native voices of its own. Every clip downloads as MP3. ## Why a native Portuguese voice matters

Portuguese hides two sounds that break foreign TTS reliably: the nasal diphthong ão (não, coração) and the soft-palate lh and nh. Brazilian Portuguese adds its own music - open vowels and the sung, wave-like sentence rhythm Brazilians recognise immediately. A native voice produces these by default; an English-accented one approximates them, and the approximation is what makes generic TTS sound like a tourist.

Nine of the fifteen voices on this page are Brazilian - by far the largest Portuguese-speaking audience online. Keren and Ana are clear narrative female voices, Roberta smooth and conversational, Amandoca fast and vibrant for social clips. Matheus and Will are male narrators, one younger, one with more weight, and Diego is the confident announcer voice for ads and trailers. Raquel is youthful and energetic, for podcasts and social media; Adriano a deep, gravelly voice for solemn narration and film trailers. For European Portuguese, six voices from Portugal - Maria, Mariza, Beatriz, Patricio, Tiago and João - have a page of their own: a Brazilian voice stays fully intelligible to Portuguese listeners and still sounds Brazilian to them.

## Brazilian narrators for ads, courses and audiobooks

The nine Brazilian voices are what most narration work actually calls for: Brazil is by far the largest Portuguese-speaking market, and a Brazilian read is the one an audience there hears as normal. Keren and Ana suit course material and explainers, Roberta and Amandoca the warmer, more conversational reads, Matheus and Will corporate and product narration, Diego and Adriano ads and trailers, Raquel podcasts and social clips.

For European Portuguese, a Brazilian voice is the wrong accent: reading a European script it stays fully intelligible in Portugal and still sounds Brazilian, in the way a US voice reading British copy sounds American. The six voices from Portugal on this page are for exactly that case, the Standard tier has five more, and for high-stakes work a human recording is still the right call.

## Frequently asked questions

**Is it Brazilian or European Portuguese?**

Both. Nine of the voices on this page are Brazilian (pt-BR) and six are from Portugal (pt-PT), tagged BR and PT in the picker; the European ones have a page of their own. The Standard tier has twelve native voices of its own - seven Brazilian and five from Portugal.

**Does it pronounce ão, lh and nh correctly?**

Yes - nasal diphthongs and the palatal lh/nh are native sounds for these voices, along with the open vowels and sung rhythm of Brazil on the Brazilian ones and the clipped, reduced vowels of Portugal on the European ones.

**Can it read mixed Portuguese and English text?**

Yes - English product names and phrases inside Portuguese text come out as English, not letter-by-letter Portuguese.

**How much does Portuguese text to speech cost?**

Native Portuguese voices exist on every tier: twelve on Standard at 50 credits per 1,000 characters (seven Brazilian, five European), and the fifteen on this page (nine Brazilian, six European) on Enhanced at 110 or Premium at 160. A 1,000-character paragraph is roughly one minute of speech - about $0.10 on Standard or $0.23 on Enhanced at the $5 pack rate. No subscription.
