## Hear the difference

The same Korean sentence, twice. Anna is a Korean speaker; Zoe reads Korean with an English accent - the tense consonants and the flat, unstressed phrasing are where it breaks.

Anna - native Korean

Zoe - universal voice

All 6 run on the ElevenLabs tiers: Enhanced at 110 credits / 1,000 characters (≈ $0.23 per minute of speech) and Premium at 160 (≈ $0.33) for the most natural result. The Standard tier reads Korean too at 50 credits, and for most languages it has native voices of its own. Every clip downloads as MP3. ## Why a native Korean voice matters

Korean punishes foreign TTS in a way that is easy to hear and hard to fix: the three-way stop contrast (ㄱ/ㄲ/ㅋ, plain, tense and aspirated) has no English equivalent, so an English-trained voice collapses all three into one. Hangul also changes sound in combination - 신라 is read as silla, 국물 as gungmul - and a voice that reads letter by letter gets every one of these wrong. Korean is phrase-timed rather than stress-timed, so the English habit of hammering one syllable per word sounds immediately foreign.

All six native voices are Korean speakers; Anna, Seulki and Chris carry a Seoul accent, the standard register of Korean broadcasting. Anna is tender and clear, well suited to narration and audiobooks; Seulki is a mature, measured voice for corporate and educational content; Hyuk is a cool, even male narrator, the most-used Korean voice in the library; Chris is younger and warmer, at home in explainers and conversational scripts. Jennie is a youthful, professional narrator for podcasts and tutorials, and Bin a warm, measured male voice for long narration.

## Frequently asked questions

**Does it handle honorifics and speech levels?**

Yes - the voices read whatever level the text is written in, from 해요체 to formal 합니다체, with the intonation each one carries. The level comes from your text; the voice does not change it.

**Does it apply Korean sound-change rules?**

Yes. Assimilation and tensing across syllable boundaries (신라 → silla, 학교 → hakkyo) are native behaviour for these voices, not a post-processing rule that can misfire.

**Can it read mixed Korean and English text?**

Yes - English terms and brand names inside Korean text are pronounced as English rather than transliterated through Hangul, which is how Korean speakers read them out loud too.

**How much does Korean text to speech cost?**

Native Korean voices exist on every tier: eight on Standard at 50 credits per 1,000 characters, and the six on this page on Enhanced at 110 or Premium at 160. Hangul is compact, so 1,000 characters carry more content than in English - the per-word cost is lower. No subscription; credits never expire.
