# Record meetings without a bot joining the call.

No "Speecho Notetaker has joined the meeting". No installs, no browser extension. Pick your meeting tab, hit record - your browser captures the call audio and your mic, and you get a transcript with speaker labels and AI notes when it ends.

[Record your next meeting →](https://my.speecho.app)

Works with Google Meet, Zoom web and Teams web in Chrome/Edge. Billed per minute, no subscription.

**You stay in control** - remember to tell participants the call is recorded.

## Why no-bot recording matters in 2026

Bots get blocked, flagged as "Unverified", and change how people talk. Your browser doesn't.

### Bots get banned from rooms

IT departments block notetaker bots; Teams labels them "Unverified"; clients side-eye the extra participant.

**Now:** Nothing joins the call. The recording happens in your own browser tab - invisible to the meeting itself.

### Subscriptions for 4 calls a month

Otter, Fireflies and friends want $8–18 every month - even the months you barely take calls.

**Now:** Pay per recorded minute from a credit pack that never expires. A one-hour call costs about a dollar.

### "Who said they'd send that?"

Half-remembered agreements, action items lost in chat scrollback.

**Now:** Speaker-labeled transcript, meeting-minutes template, and a ready-to-send follow-up email - generated in one click.

## Meeting bots vs recording the call yourself

Both end up as a transcript. They differ in what the room sees and what you sign up for.

### What the other side sees

**Bot notetakers:** an extra participant in the list, often named after the tool, sometimes sitting in the lobby waiting for someone to admit it.

**Recording your own tab:** nothing. The participant list is the people on the call.

### Who has the audio

**Bot notetakers:** the bot joins from the vendor's infrastructure, so the call streams to a third party for the whole meeting.

**Recording your own tab:** the browser captures the tab locally and only the audio you keep is uploaded for transcription.

### When it simply will not work

**Bot notetakers:** blocked by IT policy, refused entry by the host, or unsupported on the platform the client picked.

**Recording your own tab:** if the call plays in a browser tab, it records. Desktop-only apps are the exception - join through the web client instead.

## Zoom, Teams or Meet: open the call in the browser

Tab recording needs the call in a browser tab. Each platform has its own way in.

### Google Meet

Always runs in the browser. Join as usual in Chrome or Edge and pick that tab.

### Microsoft Teams

On the join page, choose to continue in the browser instead of opening the app (the button reads “Continue on this browser”).

### Zoom

Open the meeting link, then the “Join from your browser” link at the bottom of the page. If it is not there, the host may have switched browser joining off.

## How it works

Three clicks before the meeting, everything else after it.

### Click "Record meeting"

Chrome asks which tab to share - pick your Meet/Zoom/Teams tab and tick "Also share tab audio".

### Take the call as usual

Tab audio and your microphone are mixed locally. A timer and a consent reminder stay visible while recording.

### Stop → transcript & notes

The recording uploads like any file: transcript with speakers, meeting-minutes summary, follow-up email draft.

## Captions inside Zoom, no bot

Live subtitles can also appear as the meeting's own captions. You paste one link from the meeting into Captions in a meeting on the Live subtitles tab; nothing joins the call. Google Meet has no way to take captions from outside, so there you share the viewer link or the floating window of [live subtitles](https://speecho.app/live-subtitles/) instead. Microsoft Teams has a similar door (CART captions, in work and school accounts) that we do not offer yet: write to us if you need it.

### Zoom

The host opens Captions, then "Set up manual captioner", and copies the API token. No such option? Turn on "Allow use of caption API Token" in the Zoom web settings first. Participants turn on "Show captions"; the first line can take a few seconds. Step by step: [live captions for Zoom](https://speecho.app/live-captions-for-zoom/).

### OBS

Enable the WebSocket server in OBS, enter its port and password in Speecho, and the lines travel inside the stream as closed captions, behind the CC button of Twitch, YouTube and most players. Works in Chrome, Edge and Firefox. Step by step: [live captions for OBS](https://speecho.app/live-captions-for-obs/#stream-cc).

### YouTube Live

In the stream settings, with Normal latency, turn on closed captions, choose "Post captions to URL" and copy the captions ingestion URL. The lines go into the stream's own CC track, and viewers switch them on with the CC button in the player.

Send the original or the translation, into up to three places at once. It costs the same as live subtitles; the captions add nothing to the price. Needs an account.

## Pay only for what you use

Top up once. Credits never expire. No subscription. One wallet for transcription, scans and captions.

New accounts get 15 free minutes to try - credits work for scans and captions too.

## Frequently asked questions

**Can I record a Teams call without a bot?**

Yes. Open the meeting in Chrome or Edge instead of the Teams app (on the join page, choose to continue in the browser), then start the tab recording in Speecho and pick that tab. Nothing joins the call and no admin has to approve anything. Teams’ own recording is a separate feature controlled by the organizer; this does not use it.

**How can I record a meeting without a bot joining?**

Speecho records the audio of your browser tab. Click "Record meeting", choose the tab where your call is running, and enable "Also share tab audio". Your microphone is mixed in so both sides are captured. No bot, extension or desktop app is involved.

**How do I record meetings without bots on Zoom, Teams and Meet?**

Join the call in a browser tab rather than the desktop app, then start the tab recording in Speecho and pick that tab. The capture is the same on all three platforms, because it records the tab audio rather than integrating with the meeting service - so no bot is invited, and no admin has to approve an app.

**Which platforms does it work with?**

Anything that runs in a browser tab: Google Meet, Zoom in the browser, Microsoft Teams in the browser, Webex web, and any other web call or webinar. It requires Chrome or Edge on desktop - tab audio capture is a Chromium feature.

**Is it legal to record a meeting this way?**

The tool is a screen/audio recorder like OBS or QuickTime - recording your own screen is legal. Consent rules for recording conversations depend on where participants are: many places require informing everyone. Speecho shows a consent reminder while recording; announcing the recording at the start of the call is the safe practice everywhere.

**The recording came out in several parts. Can I join them?**

Yes. A meeting recorded in two goes, or a recording restarted after a dropped connection, leaves two files. Transcribe each part, select them in your history and press Merge: one transcript, timestamps running on from part to part, speakers numbered across the parts so you rename them once. It is free, and the original transcripts stay.

**How much does it cost?**

The recording is billed like any transcription: 10 credits per audio minute - a one-hour meeting is 600 credits, about $1.00–1.25 depending on your pack. Speaker labels, the meeting-minutes summary and the follow-up email draft are included.

**Does the other side hear or see anything?**

No. The capture happens entirely in your browser. Nothing joins the call, nothing is injected into the meeting - which is exactly why participants should be told verbally or in chat.

**What do I get after the meeting?**

A transcript with timestamps and speaker labels, an AI summary in a meeting-minutes format (decisions, objections, next steps), a one-click follow-up email draft, translation to 18 languages, and Word/PDF/SRT export.

**Can I see live subtitles during the meeting instead?**

Yes. On the Live subtitles tab, switch the audio source to "Browser tab" and pick your call - you get real-time subtitles with optional live translation while the meeting is happening, billed by the second. Recording and live subtitles are separate modes; use whichever fits the moment.

## Your next call, on the record.

No bot in the room, no subscription on your card. About a dollar per meeting hour.
