## The part of hiring that quietly eats the week

Nine calls in, the shortlist is running on memory and half-typed notes.

### Typing notes instead of listening

You half-listen while typing, ask a worse follow-up because you missed the last sentence, and by candidate four the notes are three bullets.

**Now:** record the call, stay in the conversation, and get the full transcript plus a summary when it ends.

### Comparing candidates from memory

Two weeks and nine interviews later, the shortlist is built on impressions of who came across well.

**Now:** search every transcript for the same question and read the answers next to each other, in their own words.

### The handover nobody reads

You forward a 50-minute recording to the hiring manager. They skim the first three minutes and ask you what you thought.

**Now:** send the summary and the quoted answers, with timestamps if they want to hear a moment for themselves.

## Consent and candidate data, handled plainly

Recording an interview is a decision with rules attached. Better to say so than to leave it out.

### Ask before you record

Rules vary by country and by state, and a candidate is entitled to know. Ask, get the yes on the recording itself, and note it in the file. Speecho transcribes what you upload - it doesn’t make that call for you, and nothing here is legal advice.

### Short retention by default

Source files are deleted after processing - audio is kept only if you explicitly enable the optional “Keep audio” playback, and you can delete it anytime. Transcripts are removed automatically after 90 days. Delete a candidate’s recording from your history sooner whenever you want to.

### Interview in their language

Screen candidates in the language they think in - 99 languages transcribed - and translate the transcript into yours for the hiring panel.

## Pay only for what you use

Top up once. Credits never expire. No subscription. One wallet for transcription, scans and captions.

New accounts get 15 free minutes to try - credits work for scans and captions too.

## Frequently asked questions

Not covered here? [Ask us](https://speecho.app/contact/), we usually reply within a business day.

**Can I transcribe interviews recorded on Zoom, Teams or Meet?**

Yes. Record the call in whichever tool you use, then upload the MP4 or M4A. The audio is extracted in your browser, so you are not pushing a two-gigabyte video across the network.

**Do I need the candidate’s consent to record?**

Usually yes, and in some jurisdictions from every person on the call. The requirements differ between countries and even between US states, so treat asking as the default: state that you are recording, get an audible yes, and keep that at the top of the recording. This is not legal advice - check your own obligations.

**Will the transcript show who was speaking?**

Yes - turn on speaker identification and each line is labelled, then rename "Speaker 1" to real names. That matters most in panel interviews where three people ask questions.

**How much does one interview cost?**

A 45-minute interview costs roughly $0.62 at $0.83 per hour. There are no seats to buy, so a colleague who runs two interviews a quarter costs you two interviews, not a licence.

**Is candidate audio used to train AI models?**

No. Recordings are not used for model training. Source files are deleted after processing (kept only if you explicitly enable the optional “Keep audio” playback - deletable anytime), and transcripts are auto-removed after 90 days.

## Hire on what was said, not what you remember.
