# Turn your ebook into an audiobook, one MP3 per chapter.

Open your EPUB, Word or PDF book on Speecho's Voice tab, pick a natural voice, and every chapter comes out as its own MP3, named after the chapter. The chapters are found from the book's contents or headings, the file is read in your browser, and you hear part 1 before paying for the rest.

Pay per character · credits never expire · no subscription. Opening the book is free; you pay only for the voice.

## From an ebook to chapter MP3s in three steps

No pasting chapter by chapter, no renaming files, no guessing what it will cost.

my-novella.epub

14 chapters · 58,400 characters · 18 parts

Part 1 ready

1 **Open the book.** EPUB, Word (DOCX), a PDF with a text layer, TXT or Markdown. The file is read in your browser and nothing is uploaded. When the book marks its chapters, the panel says "One MP3 per chapter" with the number of chapters found, already switched on.

2 **Choose chapters and a voice.** "Choose chapters" lists every chapter with its length and price. Contents and copyright pages start unticked, and very short sections are joined to the next chapter. Every voice has a free preview, and the price of the whole book is shown before anything is voiced.

3 **Voice it and download the chapters.** Part 1 comes first. If you like it, voice the rest from the history card, then download the chapters as a ZIP, any chapter on its own, or the whole book as one MP3.

## Where the chapters come from

The book already says where each chapter starts. Speecho reads it from there, and you check the list before anything is voiced.

EPUB **The table of contents.** Each entry becomes a chapter, with the title the book gives it.

Word **Heading styles.** Chapters start at the paragraphs styled Heading 1 or Heading 2 in a DOCX file.

PDF **Bookmarks.** Without bookmarks, a page that opens with a large heading or a "Chapter 3" line starts a chapter.

TXT / MD **Headings and chapter lines.** Markdown # headings, or lines like "Chapter 3" in plain text.

## Why an audiobook needs one file per chapter

A book is listened to over days. The files should work like one.

### One long file is hard to listen to

A single five-hour MP3 has no chapters. Finding where you stopped means scrubbing through it, and a course module cannot be shared on its own.

**Now:** one MP3 per chapter, numbered and named after it ("03 The Storm.mp3"), so any player lists them in order.

### Splitting a book by hand

Pasting chapter after chapter into a text box, voicing each one and renaming the files takes an evening per book.

**Now:** chapters found from the contents, headings or bookmarks, with a tick on each to leave out what you do not want voiced.

### Paying before you have heard it

Converting a whole book in one go means finding out at the end that the voice is wrong for it.

**Now:** a sample first, then part 1, then the rest. Each part is charged only when it starts, and you can stop after any of them.

A report or an article with no chapters? PDF to audio turns any document into one MP3. [PDF to audio →](https://speecho.app/pdf-to-audio/)

## What a book costs

You pay for the characters that are voiced, the same as for any text. Chapters cost nothing extra.

Novella **About 60,000 characters (roughly 11,000 words).** About 1 hour of audio. 3,000 credits on Standard, half of the $10 pack (6,000 credits). 6,600 on Enhanced and 9,600 on Premium: the $25 pack (16,800 credits) covers either.

Short book **About 150,000 characters (roughly 27,000 words).** About 2.5 hours of audio. 7,500 credits on Standard (the $10 and $5 packs together, 8,400 credits), 16,500 on Enhanced (the $25 pack), 24,000 on Premium (the $50 pack, 36,000 credits).

Full novel **About 90,000 words, roughly 500,000 characters.** More than one document holds (200,000 characters), so it goes in as three files, for example one per part of the book. About 8 hours of audio: 25,000 credits on Standard, inside the $50 pack.

Free **Your first 150 credits come with the account.** About 3,000 characters on Standard: enough to hear the opening pages of your book. On Enhanced and Premium, free credits voice samples of up to 300 characters until your first purchase.

## Frequently asked questions

**How do I turn my ebook into an audiobook?**

Open the EPUB, Word or PDF file on the Voice tab of Speecho, pick a voice and press "Voice part 1". The chapters are found from the book itself, and each one becomes its own MP3 named after the chapter. You hear part 1 before paying for the rest.

**Which files can I open?**

EPUB, Word (DOCX), PDF with a text layer, TXT and Markdown. Kindle files (AZW, MOBI) are not supported, and an ebook with DRM cannot be opened: export your manuscript as EPUB or DOCX instead. A scanned PDF has no text inside; turn it into text on the Scan text tab first.

**What if no chapters are found?**

Then the book is voiced as one text into one MP3, the same as PDF to audio. You can still split it yourself: open each chapter as its own file, or add "Chapter 1"-style lines to a plain text file.

**Can I leave chapters out?**

Yes. "Choose chapters" has a tick next to each one, with its length in characters and credits. Contents and copyright pages start unticked, and an unticked chapter is neither voiced nor charged. You can also fix typos or names in the text box first; the chapters stay where they are.

**Is the chapter title read aloud?**

Yes, when it is part of the text: the heading opens the chapter, the way audiobooks announce chapters. You can edit or delete it in the text box before voicing. The title also names the file.

**How long can a book be?**

Up to 200,000 characters per document, a little over three hours of speech, in up to 40 chapter files. A full-length novel of about 90,000 words is roughly 500,000 characters, so it goes in as two or three files, for example one per part of the book.

**What do I download?**

The chapters as a ZIP (every chapter voiced in full), any single chapter as its own MP3, or the whole book joined into one MP3. Each chapter file is numbered and named after the chapter, like "03 The Storm.mp3".

**Do chapters cost extra?**

No. You pay for the characters voiced, at the same price as any text. Chapters only change where the parts are cut (a part never runs across two chapters) and how the files are named.

**Can I publish the audiobook?**

The audio is yours to use, including commercially: on your own site, a course platform or a podcast feed. Each audiobook store has its own rules on AI narration, so check them before publishing there. You need the rights to the text itself: your own book, or one you have permission to record.

**Is my book uploaded?**

The file itself is not: the text is read out of it in your browser. The text you choose to voice is sent to the voice service to be spoken, and the audio is kept in your account so you can download it.

**Can I make an audiobook for free?**

Not a whole one. A new account comes with 150 credits, about 3,000 characters on Standard voices, which is enough to hear the first pages of your book. On Enhanced and Premium, free credits voice samples of up to 300 characters until your first purchase.

**Do I need an account?**

Yes. Voice generation is account-only so your audio and credits are saved to you. Signup is free and comes with 150 credits.

## Open your book and hear the first chapter begin.

A 60,000-character novella is 3,000 credits on Standard, half of the $10 pack. Top up once, use it anytime, credits never expire.
